Carakess

The Carakess shop & café serves light vegetarian dishes, homemade cakes, and Rehorik coffee in grandma's old coffee cups. The offering is regional and seasonal. The interior of the shop and café is over a hundred years old. The shop also sells antique treasures and refurbished attic finds. Directly opposite the Porta Praetoria is Carakess owner Claudia Flügel-Eber's Pearl Bag Museum. Tens of thousands of 1.5 mm glass beads are used to create bags and pouches according to patterns, just as it was done over 200 years ago. You can look over Ms. Flügel-Eber's shoulder, ask questions, or try it out and do some knitting yourself. Her bead bags are small works of art, with over a hundred hours of work going into each one. If you wish, these can be customized. In the Carakess shop & café, it's as if time has stood still. Pastries on grandma's porcelain, the corner bench in the café from a Kelheim inn from 1930, the red furniture from near Pirna, about 100 years old, in between handicrafts and old things for sale. The café serves a light vegetarian lunch, as well as homemade cakes, and coffee from Rehorik. Ms. Flügel-Eber pays particular attention to a regionally sourced and seasonal selection.
