RTG's sustainable path

Regensburg Tourismus GmbH is the official tourism organization for the destination of Regensburg. We want to set a consistently good example. That's why we strive for sustainability, right from the start.

And this is what sustainability means for us:

  • The equal consideration of economy, ecology, and social issues, based on the responsible, economical, and careful use of natural resources.
  • We operate for the benefit of all RTG stakeholders as much as possible
  • The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Regensburg is our focus.

Numerous sustainable activities have been launched:

  • 2025

    • RTG is re-certified Green Globe.
    • RTG is audited again in accordance with the ECG.
    • The procurement process is optimized according to ECG criteria.
    • There are network meetings and excursions for sustainable partners, including an organic catering workshop and a workshop on destination development.
    • Further sustainable destination partners are recruited, with care being taken to attract strategically important partners.
    • The recertification of TourCert is being prepared.
    • The RTG's marketing breakfast in January focuses on a sustainable topic.
    • RTG participates in several of the GNTB's Feel Good campaigns.
    • Sustainability is integrated into RTG's marketing in a variety of ways, e.g. there is a Green Monday, the Regensburg Festival in Berlin is held for everyone.

     

  • 2024

    • RTG is re-certified by Green Globe and is awarded Gold status.
    • Measures are prioritized and implemented for the first time on the basis of the sustainability handbook for the destination Regensburg.
    • A Tree of Sustainability is created for Regensburg and the destination, which is integrated in German and English on the website tourismus.regensburg.de.
    • There are network meetings and excursions for sustainable partners.
    • Additional sustainable destination partners are recruited, with care being taken to attract strategically important partners.
    • The RTG/Regensburg participates in the workshops for the development of the “Blue Angel for Events”.
    • The RTG's marketing breakfasts in April and October are held on sustainable topics.
    • RTG participates in several of the GNTB's Feel Good campaigns.
    • The procurement process is being introduced according to GWÖ criteria.
    • Sustainability is integrated into RTG's marketing in a variety of ways, e.g. there is a Green Monday and the Regensburg Festival in Berlin is held for everyone.

     

  • 2023

    • Regensburg is TourCert-audited as a sustainable destination.
    • Regensburg is promoted as a sustainable destination, with the TourCert and Travel for All certificates playing a role.
    • The sustainability website www.regensburg-nachhaltig.de is translated into English.
    • Sustainable partners are increasingly being sought for the sustainability campaign.
    • The sustainability section of the website tourismuskonzept-regensburg.de has been revised.
    • The marketing breakfast in April is all about sustainability and the sustainable partners of the TourCert certification are officially awarded the title. Ben Förtsch from Hotel Luise gives a motivational talk.
    • The trainees' further training project for employees is continued.
    • RTG is re-certified Green Globe.
    • RTG's sustainable procurement is revised.
    • Network meetings and site inspections are held for the partners of the sustainability campaign, the marinaforum Regensburg and the Includio Hotel are visited.
    • The RTG integrates the Regensburg sustainability campaign more closely into the Bavarian and national strategy, including holding a sustainability workshop with Realizing Progress.
    • A sustainability handbook for the destination Regensburg has been created. The measures to date are incorporated into the Bavaria Matrix as best practice, and a catalog of measures for future projects is included.
    • The RTG participates in several Feel Good campaigns of the GNTB.
  • 2022

    • The sustainability campaign is part of the Green Deal Regensburg.
    • Regensburg receives the “Travel for all” certificate.
    • RTG is audited for the second time by GWÖ.
    • RTG is re-certified Green Globe.
    • RTG takes part in the Sustainability Excellence Initiative.
    • RTG takes part in the Design Thinking Workshop of the Historic Highlights of Germany.
    • RTG's CO2 footprint is created with OHA!
    • RTG's sustainable procurement is improved and the key figures are revised.
    • The “Regensburg Dialogue on the Future” is continued.
    • The trainee training project for employees will be continued.
    • The RTG team workshop will be held with a focus on sustainability.
    • The Regensburg|R|Leben marketing campaign is launched.
    • The Bavarian strategy on sustainability is presented by Realizing Progress at the marketing breakfast in October.
    • The RTG is invited to various presentations and discussions, e.g. Lübeck, Tourismusverband Ostbayern, Deutscher Tourismusverband, Bayern Tourismus Marketing, Bayerisches Zentrum für Tourismus, Brazilian delegation of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, etc. Ministry of Economic Affairs, etc.
    • Network meetings and site inspections are held for the partners of the sustainability campaign.
    • The website www.regensburg-nachhaltig.de receives an update and adapts the sustainability criteria even more precisely. It is expanded in cooperation with the city
  • 2021

    • RTG is in turn re-certified Green Globe.
    • RTG receives the certificate as an audited company of the GWÖ.
    • RTG's first sustainability report is published on the basis of the GWÖ audit.
    • The focus in 2021 is on sustainable destination certification with TourCert.
    • For the city of Regensburg's first Sustainability Week, RTG organizes the Business Day together with the city of Regensburg and holds it at marinaforum Regensburg.
    • The trainee project “Weiterbildungspass” is continued, including on the topic of sustainability, and RTG is specifically looking for sustainable adjustments.
    • An after-work discussion series “Regensburg Future Dialogue” with Prof. Barfuß (Head of Economic Affairs) is launched in cooperation with the City of Regensburg.
    • In cooperation with city marketing, short films on sustainability in Regensburg are produced and advertised on social media.
    • The RTG participates in a research project at Munich University of Applied Sciences to create a BSC based on the GWÖ criteria.
    • Regensburg becomes a member of OHA! Ostbayern handelt! and the Sustainability Excellence Initiative.
    • New cooperation projects are selected in event management.
    • The RTG is invited to various lectures and discussion rounds, e.g. Sabine Thiele (management): Bavarian Center for Tourism discussion panel, German Tourism 
    • Daniela Wiese (Sustainability Officer): OTH podcast, OTH lecture series, talks with Bayreuth, Lübeck, etc.
  • 2020

    • The new website www.regensburg-nachhaltig.de is launched. Guests can find out more, partners can participate and advertise their company free of charge.
    • Green Globe certification is audited for the third year with 96%.
    • The kick-off event for sustainable destination certification with TourCert takes place in September. Further information www.tourismuskonzept-regensburg.de​​​​​​​
    • The development of a sustainable city tour with Transition e.V. is supported by RTG.
    • RTG's sustainability activities are made visible at the RTG locations. This takes the form of a sustainability wall at marinaforum Regensburg, a video produced by the trainees at Prinz-Ludwig-Höfe (administration/marketing) and at the tourist information offices.
    • In 2020, the trainee project “Further training pass” for RTG employees will focus on the topic of sustainability. Digital videos provide employees with information, their ecological footprint can be determined and suggestions for improving sustainability are requested at the same time.
    • RTG prepares a report on the Economy for the Common Good (ECG).
  • 2019

    • RTG is re-certified with a very good Green Globe result.
    • The BREEAM certification marinaforum Regensburg is completed.
    • RTG receives the Bavarian Tourism Award Special Prize for Sustainability for its “Holistic sustainability concept for the MICE destination Regensburg” from the ADAC.
  • 2018

    • RTG is certified with a very good 93% Green Globe.
    • The Marina Furiosa festival for the opening of the marinaforum Regensburg is the first sustainable festival to be held in Regensburg.
    • The CO2 value of RTG business trips is assigned a € value, which is donated to a Regensburg social project.
    • At marinaforum Regensburg, the sustainable measures in construction and operation are explained with a Power Point presentation and QR codes.
    • Several customer events at marinaforum Regensburg use the Green Score Card.
  • 2017

    • The proportion of fairly produced souvenirs is 95%.
    • More than 60% of the sustainability targets set for 2018 have been achieved.
    • Continuation of partner evaluation with sustainability survey.
    • Partner training, presentation by Jürgen May, 2bedifferent, at the marketing breakfast “Sustainability - from optional to mandatory”.
    • City map “At a glance” in easy language.
    • The entire equipment of marinaforum Regensburg is designed with sustainability in mind.
  • 2016

    • The proportion of fairly produced souvenirs is 89%.
    • Further development of the sustainability questionnaires. The partner database is supplemented by a survey on the sustainability of all relevant RTG partners.
    • Key figures and target values for sustainability are defined.
    • All RTG events are now carried out sustainably (Green Score Card).
    • The sustainability concept for events is supplemented by a give-back option through donations to social projects.
    • At the team workshop, all employees are informed and trained on the topic of sustainable events.
    • A separate RTG health management system is installed.
    • Training of a further sustainability consultant in the event industry.
  • 2015

    • The proportion of fairly produced souvenirs is 82%.
    • A presentation at the greenmeetings conference describes the “Regensburg way of sustainability in the event industry”.
    • RTG's first sustainable events are the “10th anniversary RTG partner event” and the “Degginger Lounge” Christmas party.
    • Participation in the second training seminar “Sustainability consultants in the event industry, sustainability 2.0”.
    • All RTG employees are surveyed on sustainability.
    • RTG appoints a safety officer.
    • The RTG moves into the Degginger, whereby great importance is attached to sustainable equipment (carpet, LED lighting, etc.).
  • 2014

    • The proportion of fairly produced souvenirs is now 69%.
    • The Green Score Card and Green Note with certificate are introduced.
    • The RTG receives inquiries from students about their commitment to sustainability.
    • The first “fairpflichtet” progress report attracts attention in the event industry.
    • The first inclusive city tours in easy language take place in Regensburg.
  • 2013

    • The proportion of fairly produced souvenirs is 65%.
    • The RTG conference motto is extended from “tradition goes future” to “tradition goes GREEN future”.
    • A two-day sustainability workshop takes place. Topics include the development of the Regensburg model of sustainability in the event industry and the development of a set of criteria.
    • RTG's partners are sensitized, a partner survey in the area of event management on the topic of sustainability is carried out on the basis of a sustainability survey.
    • Sustainable topics are increasingly being used in PR/communications.
    • Numerous sustainability aspects of the future user RTG are incorporated into the planning and construction of marinaforum Regensburg.
    • When procuring goods, great attention is paid to regionality (chairs, Salzstadel tableware, etc.).
  • 2012

    • In the area of textile sales, 100 percent fairly produced goods are sold.
    • In event management, the focus is on sustainable commitment:
      • Attendance at sustainability consultant seminar in the event industry
      • Marketing breakfast with speakers on the topic of sustainability.
    • The Deutsche Bahn event ticket is offered for events organized by RTG customers.
    • An analysis of the “sustainable state of RTG” is carried out.
    • RTG signs “fairpflichtet”, the voluntary code of conduct on sustainability in the German event industry.
    • marinaforum Regensburg is designed for sustainability right from the start. Creation of a concept for the city council (sustainability as a key element).
    • An RTG inclusion officer is appointed (freelance employee).
    • All new purchases are checked for sustainability.
    • 100 percent of give-aways in marketing are sustainable.
  • 2011

    • Guided tours can be offered in sign language.
    • Inclusion and fair trade are becoming important topics at RTG.
    • Office supplies are ordered exclusively from memo.de.
  • 2010

    • Expansion of the EFQM model means more sustainability

    • Introduction of citizen survey
  • 2008

    • Introduction of customer feedback and guest surveys

    • Sustainability is incorporated into RTG's values.
    • Employees are sensitized.
    • Introduction of a “paperless office” (DMS), filing of all company documents online only.

    • RTG works with EFQM.
    • All advertising material is printed on 100 percent Blue Angel paper.

The sustainable path always remains a path without end. There is no arriving, because there's always something to improve!
