HAUS DER BAYERISCHEN GESCHICHTE | MUSEUM

In its permanent exhibition, the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte on Regensburg's Donaumarkt shows the origins of modern Bavaria - and in terms of sustainability, it is the largest museum in the world to be certified as a passive house. An important milestone on the way to becoming an ecological, energy-efficient and climate-friendly museum that needs neither gas nor oil, its energy for heating and cooling is obtained from the city of Regensburg's waste water.

The foyer, which is accessible free of charge, not only invites you to stroll between the old town and the Danube: the film in the panorama room takes you back to Regensburg’s past. An ideal start to visit the museum or take a tour of the old town. The museum store and the Bavarian pub complete the offer in the foyer.

SPECTACULAR AND TYPICALLY BAVARIAN

Personal memorabilia, spectacular large-scale objects and exciting media installations: The permanent exhibition offers a history theater with 30 stages and eight cultural cabinets. It tells the story of how Bavaria became a free state and what makes it special. On 2,500 square meters, we trace Bavaria's path to becoming a modern state, from the beginning of the kingdom in 1806 to the present day. We tell the story of the royal crown, a bestowment by Napoleon, the mysterious death of Ludwig II, how Hitler rose to power in Munich, how guest workers changed Bavaria, how a balloon from the GDR landed in Naila and caused a sensation in Hollywood. In the culture cabinets, we explore the question of what is typically Bavarian. From the different dialects to famous buildings and diverse customs, we challenge Bavarian clichés.

In addition, there are always new special exhibitions on display in our Danube Hall and in the foyer of the museum - it's well worth a visit!
